"Bollywood's vows of Friendship"

    "Few relations in earth never die..!!". This is how the so called acronym "F.R.I.E.N.D" is decoded as.In solidarity, in cheerfulness, in guilty, in mourning, in rejoice, in stupidities; the single vow that stands undisturbed and unerupted is the unmarred relationship of Friends. Had the life abound with monotony and dullness with all aroma of gloom had there been no magical relation of friends. An old saying still so remarkable ; "A friend in need is the friend in deed" conveys a lot more.

    A friend , more than anything is like a still water that runs deep. This relationship of friendship has it's traces on the rough surfaces of planet bollywood, making it sparkle in a sunshine. The B-Town had always perfectly used the "masala" recipe of friends to make their products full of entertainment and blockbuster. Whether it had been the times past or the times present , the bollywood has the same meaning of friendship ; though their nature modified.

    Released in 1975, Directed by Ramesh Sippy and acted upon by the two inevitable legends of the era- Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra-as "Jai" and "Veeru" attracted masses to the "bada parda". The undettered chemistry between "Jai" and Veeru" made every eye watered. The super hit melody of the times "yeh dosti hum nahi todenge" sung by Kishore Kumar and Mukesh achieved a huge positive response from the audience and film ruled the screen for more than year. How these friends unite their souls to fight against the criminal "Gabbar Singh" is the true spirit of friendship. Moreover, the movie turns to an emotional note with the death of "Jai"- making this epic "amar" forever.

    The same tie of friendship was again displayed in Amitabh's "Yaraana"(1981). Rakesh Kumar's Yaraana was the story - deeply rooted in the love for friend- of "Kishan"; who was gifted with the playback voice; was ultimately raised to success with the strong efforts and struggle of "Bishan"(Amzad Khan).     Released on 16th october 1998; directed by Karan Johar and produced by Dharma Productions,"Kuch kuch hota hai"was unparallel. With the finest blend of "dil" and "dosti" , Kuch Kuch Hota Hai raised Karan Johar to the peak. Played by Shah Rukh Khan as "Rahul" and Kajol as "Anjali"; the true love was portrayed on screen and revived the success of "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge." The movie had all those evidences which a true friendship witnesses-love, dosti, help, fights and romance. The ultimate dialogue by SRK ; "Pyar dosti hai" refreshed the young minds. Even the basketball fights and true friendship "nokjhoks" marked the movie. Though the movie ends up in the romantic mood of re-union of "Rahul" and "Anjali".

    On 24th july 2001, planet bollywood witnessed the new drape of friendship with the release of Farhan Akhtar's "Dil Chahta Hai". With the three protagonists at the crust ; "Dil Chahta Hai" was a milestone. The movie directly connected with the young minds and youths of the age. Played by Aamir Khan as "Akash"; Akshaye Khanna as "Sid"and Saif Ali Khan as "Sameer"; "Dil Chahta Hai" was a huge success. Turning to a serious note with end up of their true vow of friendship when "Sid slaps Akash" tightly on his cheeks; the movie executes with the re-union of three departed souls once again. Dil Chahta Hai had "3-d friendship" in the words of "Sid".

    "Rang- De Basanti" was the next to arrive. Endowed with the soothing charm of friendship of youths of Delhi University - the movie ranged it's success in each nook and corner . With face to face with the audience on 26th January 2007, Rang-De Basanti was a story of five careless freaky friends -on their own impulse- who set out to sacrifice their lives for a common cause of friendship.Their blood becomes red hot when they hear of the death of "Ajay"(Madhvan)-due to mischief and negligence of corrupt Defence minister and all in all set out to proclaim a revenge for his beloved friend's life..!! It was truely a wow friendship cinema. Such a friendship and strong vows of love were never brought on-screen.The movie bagged all the prestigious awards of the year for its director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra.

    New definitons were studded and new beams of friendship were darted with release of Aamir Khan's Productions and directed by Abbas Tyrewala;"Jane tu ya jane na". Introducing Imran Khan and Genelia D' Souza was the perfect recipe for the success of this product. The movie had various instances of modern friendship where the use of words as "boyfriends" and "girlfriends" were scatterly witnessed.The cast of "Jai"and "Aditi" were as similar to those of anyone's college life. With the bevy of five ;"Jane tu ya jane na" was still incredible and remarkable piece of direction by Abbas Tyrewala.

    Setting all new aura of education and moulding the Indian education system , Vidhu Vinodh Chopra's "3 idiots"was an exception. The movie proved "Aamir's Midas' touch".With the friendship of "Rancho", "Farhan" and "Raju" in the movie , the Indian youths found their souls in them.The essence of all round friendship was clearly visible when Rancho saves Raju's life after he attempts suicide and in the latter half when Farhan and Raju undergo a quest for Rancho. With all new objectives and breaking all myths of Indian education system; Vidhu Vinodh Chopra's 3 idiots was loke never before..!!Sorrounded with the instances of help, masti and romantic "tadka" of Rancho with Priya(Kareena Kapoor); the movie was a star performer.
